A sad family loss

When we first setup the Buckingham Blog back in November the main reason was really to let everyone know our latest news.

With the news of the baby dominating the articles everything has, thankfully, been pretty positive. It's great that we can come online and tell you all our happy news. Unforunately, such in life, the happy has to come with the sad, so here is our first (and hopefully for a while our last) one.

Tonight our family dog Sandy passed away :(.

He'd started having fits on Monday morning and over the past 24 hours had very quickly deteriorated. It was apparently a brain tumour but thankfully everything was sudden and hopefully as painless as possible for him.

He was a energtic, loving, bouncy character who wouldn't hurt a fly and I believe he had a fantastic life. How many dogs can say that they went for a walk up Ben Nevis for the day and still want more? :) The big age of 14 is not bad going either.

This may be rather poetic of me to say but it's times like this that bring back what's important in life. Sandy passing away so close to the baby arriving really opens your eyes to this. I'm sure when Bunny does arrive he'll shine a great big light on the sadness we're all feeling just now.

Rest in peace Sandy-boy, we'll all deeply miss you. Enjoy those doggie heaven walks :)

James

I am really sorry about poor Sandy, he was a lovely dog and I always enjoyed our wee walks when ever I looked after him.

I hope he is happy in doggie heaven.

Good old faithful Sandy, the perfect dog and companion. I recall the day we first took him home in 1991, we had to have our previous dog put down and when Sandy charged into our living room both the kids burst into tears. He brought out the sense of loss that they had been bottling up. We took him up into the Highland hills quite a few times where he never stopped running about. At the top of Ben Nevis he was the tallest dog in the UK - very appropriate. He just loved to tear around the glens (chasing the deer sometimes - until they turned towards him anyway!). Because of our nomadic life he ended up living with James and Julie for awhile and then went to live at my Sister-in-Law's house in Norfolk where he enjoyed their big garden, when he wasn't sitting in the back of their van, watching the world go by - between naps. Thank you all. We will miss him. D

i will never forget jasmine toddling around our parents house in scotland and when clamping her eyes on sandy she would call "bear" (it was one of the few words she could say at the time). She would then charge toward him and throw herself at him pulling fur and ears, and he would just lie there looking at our mum as if to say "you gonna stop her or what". he was the softest sweetest and daftess dog i have ever known and i can't imagine what my life would have been like without him. You will be sadly missed sandy boy by everyone that met you.
i hope they have a white van for you to sit in the back of where you are now so you can still keep an eye on the world.
Love always my sandy pup.

What more can I say. Sandy was a well loved and lovable dog. We all loved him and he gave so much back to all people he met. He would 'say' so much with just a look or a doggie smile or bark, which also let him get away with a lot and get him what he wanted, walks, food from the table and of cause the sweety draw.
He had some of the best stunts for crowd puller, with his food on the nose trick and pull off the sock trick, (which he even did to Jasmine when she was only 7 weeks old, well she was a sitting target) that he made sure he was not ignored for long, always at 9pm.
But he had his bonus's when he sat on your feet which was lovely in the winter months. I remember when Chad and I camped in the hills and Sandy sleeped in the tent with us because of the cold night, Sandy laid across our feet, heaven, I hasten to add he was younger and lighter then.
Well Sandy I have throw my last stick for you and we have walked our last walk around those hills and forests, in all weathers. Sometime the walks were a real bind but I met a lot of nice people (and dogs) and had some nice chats that I would never have had if I did not have you.
Thanks to all his keeper over the years. They say varity is the spice of life and Sandy sure had that, perhaps that is why he live so long.
Well boy I am sure we will meet again one day, and thanks for being a good pal. Well loved and surly missed.

Sorry to hear about Sandy. I met him briefly a couple of times when we lived in Cove and he seemed so friendly (although Heather was terrified - she's more of a cat person).

From what I remember, James and Julie even bought their car with Sandy in mind but sadly he moved back with his parents. I know James was gutted at the time.

Rest in peace Sandy and please don't terrorise my cats in pet heaven :)
