Aberdeen's Big Brother

I was doing a bit of surfing around on our local council website tonight and came across something I'd almost forgotten about.

The council buildings have three cameras sitting on top of it. These are all connected to their website and point at three parts of the city centre Castlegate, Union Street & the Harbour.

They only update once a minute but they give you a good idea of what's in our part of the world.

Christmas!

It's been a few days since either of us posted, so here's the weekly baby bump picture first of all. I'm now 27 weeks, so hopefully on the downhill slope!

James and I had a nice white Christmas here in Aberdeen, it started snowing on Christmas Eve and snowed most of Christmas Day then thankfully (don't fancy falling again!) just melted on boxing day. We had a pretty quiet Christmas day - just the 2 of us in the house, but it was nice all the same, who knows when (if??) we'll ever be able to do that again!

On Boxing Day, my mum and her boyfriend came up to visit. We got more pressies, and lots of baby things! We went into town shopping yesterday, which is getting more and more exhausting for me, and annoying for others when I can't go much faster than a snail! (Those of you coming to visit over the next month, please note, shopping is NOT on the agenda!!)

Last night mum took us out for a meal. We went to our favourite restaurant so that I could get my corriander "fix". It's an Indian in Aberdeen called Shahbaaz. Afterwards we went to get ice-cream from Baskin Robbins, yummy!

Not done a lot today, got up and took mum to visit Hannah and Holly who is now 6 days old! She's soooo cute. Now mum and Tom have just headed off down the road. Next........

Passing the time

Well I'm currently sitting at work waiting for Julie to come and pick me up so I thought I'd pass the time by writing a wee entry.

Julie, Bunny and me would like to wish you all a great Christmas and a fantastic New Year. Lets hope Santa brings you all the presents you wished for ;)

Baby Update - Week 26

James here for a change.

We thought it was about time that I did a bit of a baby update on the blog as that role to date seems to have been given to Julie.

Emotionally this week seems to have been quite quiet. Saying that we've still had a few 'ups and downs', quite literally in fact. The infamous Scottish ice kicked off this weekend and has left most of Aberdeen as an ice rink.

Last night we decided since it was Saturday night to pop out and get a chinese take away. We also decided to "kill two birds with one stone" and drop off a christmas card on the way. Julie unfortunately had a bit of a fall on the way to the door. No damage done apart from a couple of a mud marks on her jeans and a few scratches on her mobile but still a bit of a hairy moment.

She was a bit shocked but it wasn't anything that the chinese couldn't sort out 30 minutes later ;)

All tied up for Christmas

Bit of a busy "Spring" clean this week.

Had the dry cleaner round yesterday to gut all the carpets followed by the "new" couch v2 turning up this morning. Quite nice timing actually.

Thank god that it actually fitted this time as well. I was quite nervous when they first turned up with it.

Here's a wee picture of what all the fuss has been about. Great for those cosy nights in :)

Now that we've got that out the way we can look at putting the Christmas tree up (hooray, says Julie).

Clever Froogle - Racing Frogs!

I thought it was about time I put something on here that wasn't about my bump! So the other obsession in my life just now is my virtual frog!

I've had my frog now for a few weeks (age:165 in frog days!) and am sooo impressed with how clever she is and how well she is doing!! I have bought her a helicopter and a landing pad (along with all the other things like computer, mobile phone and scooter) for one of the ponds, and am about to buy her a second landing pad.

Having a happy Froogle seems to work, as she has won every race for over 2 weeks now, winning me lots of gold and medals. She has 23 medals now, gaining 2 in the Superfrogs race on Sunday!!

She is 615th out of 119200 frogs in her region, and 38th of 7900 in her age catagory, which is amazing!! Just another few things to get her and she'll be winning the superfrogs race!!

Sad? Me? No way.......

Baby Bunny - Week 25

This week has been a boring one....got all the Christmas shopping finished, finally!!

The week coming up is going to be busy....have work at the start of the week, then having our carpets shampooed on Thursday, so have to get all the furniture moved out of living room and bedroom. Then James will finally let me put up my Christmas tree!! Yippee!!

Then I have my work office party on Friday....have bought my secret Santa present, but that's a secret!

Bump is moving around loads now, he's starting to have a wee personality. He responds to James voice now and kicks him which is funny. He has had a bit of a growth spurt as well I think this week, and is driving me nuts in the middle of the night.

I feel totally exhausted most of the time...and increasingly frustrated at myself not being able to do things I am used to doing. Downhill from here on though....17 weeks at the very most to go!!

The (almost!) Finished House!

Well that's my parents 'hoilday' home in Cyprus almost built, and just in time for Christmas as well.

Here's some pictures that were taken at the beginning of the week.

The house still needs to have the electricity turned on and the railing put in around the swimming pool. Apart from that though it's just about there.

The furniture is now on it's way out there with my mum closily following next Thursday (16th). My dad's out on the 23rd and the two are spending Christmas day sitting in the Med' in front of the swimming pool. Ok for some!!!

I guess the only disadvantage of it all is they've got to unpack everything once it's turned up. It's a hard life :)

The things people do for charity

Well I've had some strange days at work before but this one has to take the biscuit. Today, my boss got arrested. Yeap you heard me ARRESTED!!!

I always thought he had a bit of a dark side to him :)

But seriously though. As part of a fund raising event for one of Aberdeen's local charities Northsound's Cash for Kids, Jeff was arrested at 14:40 by two genuine policeman for "Abuse to Office equipment" (it's a long story!!). He was then taken downstairs, hand chuffed and thrown in the back of a police van.

He was then whisked over to the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and locked in their tower with other local businessmen and celebrities. The idea from this point on was to phone as many contacts as possible and aim to make at least £1000 each for the charity.

The group managed to raise around £14,000 with Jeff making approxiamately £2,500 of that total. Nice one Jeff!!

Bump Update - Week 24

Thought I better put this on before all you people get annoyed!! I was asked a few times today why there was no bump pic on a Sunday!! How impatient!! It's not a great pic, it was taken after one of my many crying fits, so ignore the face!!

That's me 24 weeks tomorrow, only 16 to go....or so folk keep telling me. 16 weeks seems like an eternity. Can't wait till he comes out coz then I won't be pregnant any more and I can return to being Julie and not this evil cow!! I think being pregnant suits some folk, but I certainly am not one of them!

As you can see, we have a new location for bump pics - in the baby's room! Seems appropriate!

He is now kicking like mad 24 hours a day and driving me nuts, I couldn't get close to my desk at work today because every time I did, he'd bash into it and hurt me!!

That's all folks!

Baby's Room Finished!

Today we finished the room for Bunny....everything seems so real now!! It took us a couple of days to paint it (it was a dark blue before so we had to hide that first!) and then today we put up the border and the curtains and I have to say I just love it!! The cot is full of "stuff" for him, and I didn't realise how much we had collected already!!

The pictures don't really do it justice I have to say, might take some more in daylight and see if they are any better. Now all it needs is wardrobe and chest of drawers and it's sorted!

On other news, tonight we were at Sarah's birthday party.....was good fun and I even had a glass of wine :o) Shame it was only one though!!

And another really sad thing, I bought baby monitors in Boots that I am well excited about.......they are Tomy ones and they were on special offer with £10 off which was fab. My friend Jenni had given me a friends of staff members voucher which entitles you to 10% off too. Then on top of that I got triple points as well as 500 bonus points for spending over £25 in the baby section. So all in all I got 1000 from it, ie another £10 off really. So the monitors were almost half price....bargain!!!

Having a nice quiet day tomorrow, been a busy few days and I am knackered!!

Lottery Winner in the family

Got a bit of news from my little sister last night.

She's managed to get 5 numbers on the National Lottery and won herself a nice little sum just under £1500. Nice timing just before Christmas.

The sad part of this story is that the 6th number was apparently one away from the bonus ball. What a shame!!!

Not sure what she's going to do with it yet but Kelly, since I know you read this blog daily, I REALLY need a new 42" plasma screen if you fancy being generous this Christmas :D

Love your darling sweet brother,
James

Baby Update - Week 23

Anyone getting bored of this yet?! Well here is yesterday's photo, I'm almost 23 weeks now, and "bunny" hardly seems an appropriate name for him now. It's too cute and cuddly for something this evil who kicks and punches ribs and bladder!!!

Anyway, I've been on antibiotics for the past week or so for my tooth, which are having bad effects, they seem to be making me pretty ill, along with other not so nice things!! So I'm being grumpy, as I'm sure James isn't hesitating to tell anyone who will listen.

My bum also constantly hurts from sitting on either the floor or the sofa bed, which is not designed for comfort in sitting position!!

We're going to be decorating the baby's room on Thursday and Friday this week, which is pretty exciting, pictures to follow!! Watch this space........

Wedding 'Bells'

Saturday was the big day for one of my longest friends, Lee Bell.

In case you don't know the story Lee and me have been mates since school. That's about 10 years ago now and looking back I never thought I'd see the day I'd be Ushering at his wedding. How things change :)

The weather wasn't the best but thankfully it managed to hold off until we'd got 'the man' down to the church, got all his photos taken and got him inside. I tell you what though there is nothing like wearing a kilt on a rainy cold November's day to wake you up. I was getting bumps where I really shouldn't have been getting them.

ANYWAY, the ceremony kicked off at 14:30 and seemed to go quite smoothly. I only say 'seemed' because I managed to sit down in front of what must have been Lee's tallest relative. I spent most of it staring at the decorations on the ceiling and trying to hear what was being said at the front.

Things wound up around 15:30 and by this time the rain was bouncing!!! Even running to the coaches involved a big drenching :(

Back at the hotel by 16:00 and straight into the photos again!! Not before getting a couple of glasses of champagne down my throat first though :D. We spent the next hour locked in a room with photographer.

He kind of annoyed me actually because in that hour he took just one picture with Phil and me, the Ushers, in it. What a complete waste of drinking time.

Instead we watched the photographer running around trying to get people in position and I can't count the amount of times he managed to trip over a wire and pull his lighting equipment down. The guy should have had an assitant or someone because he managed to miss out guests, delay the meal and wind-up the majority of the bridal party by just not knowing what he was doing next.

Still, the dinner was lovely. The speeches went well and Lee, surprisingly, didn't look as nervous as I thought he would be.

The night kicked off at around 20:00 and without affecting the drinking too much I managed to squeeze in 4 or 5 dances (with some of the nicer ladies of the wedding as well I might add :p ).

James

*UPDATE - 1st December 2004*

We've just found out the band on the night, Lave Rock, have just put some more pictures on their website.

You can find them at www.laverock.net under gigs. It's currently titled "Jenni and Lee's wedding, Thainstone ,27-11-04" which I don't think they'll be too chuffed about as her name is Kirsty. Oops!!!

Check out some of the ridiculous dances they had us all doing.

A little fairy magic for Christmas

This one is kind of work related but it seems quite appropriate for the time of year. It's one of my projects that I've just finished and I'm chuffed to bits with the end result.

When you get a chance pop over to the Flower Fairies website and have a go of the ecard photo section (you can find a button at the top of the main page).

Remember to send us a few e-Christmas cards while you have a play around with it.

Here's one we made earlier...

Enjoy!!!!

Update on life!

I thought I'd post an update on what's been happening, the good the bad and the ugly!!

Firstly the cot - it arrived today, which is very exciting. It's not been out of the box yet, because we want to paint next week first! But can't wait now it's here. So is the bedding which arrived at the weekend! Will soon look like a proper wee boy's room!!

Next, the dentist - I had horrendous toothache on a tooth I have had a lot of work done on, for the past 2 weeks, so I saw the dentist today and he said to try antibiotics as there is something under the tooth, but he doesn't want to drill in unless he really has to. And wouldn't xray unless he had to either. He would if it was unbearable, as I'm past 3-4 months, but would be last resort, as would giving me injections to drill in. So hoping the antibiotics help and I don't need the tooth out! YIKES!

And finally the couch scenario - we got the couch from DFS, waited 8 weeks, only to find they told us wrong measurments in first place so wrong one was ordered and we only discovered this on delivery when it doesn't fit! Then discovered they have a "no returns" policy and that all sofa's are made to order. ARGH!!!!! Only they don't tell you this, so beware!! So tonight we managed to reach a compromise, and the one is being uplifted on Thursday. They assure us we'll have one that does fit by Xmas.

Frankly just glad it's getting sorted coz at one point they wouldn't even consider it. BE WARNED!!!

So that is my news!! I now have to spend yet another day of my week off work, sitting in waiting on delivery men. And will have nothing to show for it by the end of the week. 2 boring days in! And a sofa bed in living room....nice!

Bump Update - Week 22

Had a good weekend, had Jenni here since Thursday to stay, which was fun. We went shopping on Friday (baby things!!) and ordered the cot on Saturday, so that should be here this week. Also the baby bedding arrived!! Sad I know, but so exciting!

As you can see from the pic above, I'm geting rather big. Worried about how big this little elephant is going to end up!! He is a real jumper in there, keeping me awake now, and James can see my whole tummy move from across the room! The ironing board seems miles away now, as does the sink!!

Today I am sitting in waiting on someone to collect the old couches and for the new one to be delivered, what a way to spend the first day of my holiday from work!!

BIG oops

Well our new couch turned up today, all 2.5m x 2.5m of it.

Pretty big?? Yes!

Lots of room to lie around on?? Yeap.

It isn't great though when you discover that the wall it's going up against is only 2.14m. So we have a big problem on our hands.

I've spent most of the day fighting with the couch company over the phone but it looks like it might take a while to sort this one out. Pretty annoying when I know this is the wrong size and we measured it all beforehand.

ANYWAY, on other news. The stag-do on Saturday went...ummmmm, quietly. It was an ok night but we spent most of it propping up the bar in one pub.

The Mexican meal was nice but my god that place was noisy. Then again the free Tequila slammers going round at the end of every meal would explain a few things.

I headed home around 1, the night seemed to be winding down at that point plus I'm completely broke.

I've no idea where all my money has gone this month, probably on Julie's Xmas present ;)

A busy weekend coming up (and the snow doesn't help things)!!!

Well the start of a busy weekend kicked off last night along with the winter snow :(

Two inches came out of nowhere and the first we knew about it was when the curtains were opened this morning. It doesn't hang around in Scotland that's for sure!!!

Julie and me went to a work-organised quiz night last night which aimed at raising money for a local charity called the Leemac Clinic.

It was quite a good night, mainly brought on by the fact that my score was a hell of a lot better than the last work quiz we did (I came in last). In total we managed to raise just over £1000 which was great.

The quiz finished at 23:00 and was immediately followed by us running to the car (well Julie wobbled but that's not the point!!) and driving over to the train station to pick up one of our old friends/ex-flatmate Jenni - aka Jenni-o-saurus.

She's staying with us till Sunday night and I think the main plan is to go out for a meal tonight and spend the rest of the time shopping.

Tomorrow night is Lee's stag-do. The big day is next Saturday so it's time to kiss goodbye to his ankles and say hello to the 'ball and chain'. Oh hang no he's had that for two years already :Þ *Sorry I'm in one of those moods*.

We're off out for a few drinks, off to have a Mexican and then hitting the bars for the rest of the night. Assuming the hangover isn't that big, I'll let you know how it goes on Sunday.

Sunday Bump!

Sunday Bump - Week 21

Well as some of you are used to getting pics by email every Sunday, I decided to just put them here!

Today has been a bit of a funny day. I woke up with a headache, and then had a "funny turn" in the shower. I somehow managed to pull a muscle in my back when washing my hair. It made me feel funny and I went dizzy and almost fainted. I managed to shout james by which time I was on my knees thinking I was going to be sick. He got me to bed and I was fine after about 10 minutes, but was pretty freaked out by the whole thing. My back is now killing me!

After lunch and I was ok, we went to Toys R Us to have a look at the bedding "in the flesh" only to find our store don't stock it. I was so excited - was even going to buy the border and go choose paint to match. Now I need to order online and hope I like it when it gets here!!

We then went to mothercare to confirm we do like the cot we'd seen online which we do! And then off to B&Q to get some colour cards anyway! I just want to get sorted NOW!!!

Racing Frogs

I kind of promised myself when we started this website that I wouldn't turn it into a techy site. Something turn up a couple of weeks ago though that Julie found and I really wanted to tell everyone about it.

When you get a chance have a go of www.racingfrogs.org. This little site is pure genius and whoever came up with this idea must be earning a nice little fortune.

The basic idea is to create your own racing frog. You're then put into a league with 23 other frogs and every night they race against each other in one of four lakes. I won't ruin it for you but the idea is to train your frog up on a daily basis and the more attention you spend to it the better it gets.

Julie and me have been doing it for a couple of weeks now and Julie in particular, has been doing very well. She's just bought her frog, Froogle, a helicopter rental :) Ok for some!!

I'll give you one little tip to get you started. Buy a VIP subscription ASAP!!! It doesn't cost that much and you can get a fairly good advantage over the other frogs by using the options within it.

Let us know how you get on and if you've got any hints/tips let us know using the comments section.

The only way is up

As if Julie being pregnant wasn't enough change for one year another big event has just occurred in our lives.

It was finally announced at work this afternoon that I'll be taking on the position of Senior Developer within Imajica.

This is really my first big step into management and it will be interesting to see what gets thrown at me. One thing is for sure though I'm looking forward to the new challenges that are ahead and can't wait to see how things develop from here on in.

20 week scan

20 week scan

Well today was our 20 week scan day!! It's a BOY!!

We seemed to be in the scan for ages, watching Bunny jumping up and down and waving at us!! The sonographer was amazed just how much he was moving about. She struggled to get all the measurements that she needed and had to chase him around a lot. She did finally get them all, and all was good. Hoewever, in the process I had to roll left and right, and stand up and jump, and we had to move to another scanning room to a better machine!! A sign of things to come??!!

We're both just really pleased that he is healthy, we saw all the chambers of his heart, counted his wee fingers and toes, saw his kidney's and stomach and saw him having a few yawns!! No wonder you are tired, silly Bunny!! Lie STILL!!

I went and bought him a jacket after I dropped James back at work. I had seen it in the sale last week and almost bought it. Once I had it confirmed that he definately is a boy, I just "had" to go and get it!! It is sooo cute, and is for next winter.

Now I can really start shopping and decorating - Yippee!!!

Baby Update - Week 20

Baby Update - Week 20

Well the biggest news in our life at the moment is that Julie is expecting. She's now 20 weeks gone and we've got the big scan coming up tomorrow at 14:20. Boy or girl? Put your bets on now!!!

We decided at the start of the pregnancy that we'd take a picture every sunday. That way we can see how much of a change is happening each week.

We're now halfway through the pregnancy so it only seemed right to start posting them online.

James

First Post

Well it's taken me a few years to get round to doing this but I've finally set up our first website.

Over the years I've come up with design after design for our 'perfect' site but at the end of the day the only thing I've really only been good at (and enjoyed) is developing them. So I've decided to get someone else to make it look nice for me. Thanks Google!!!

I'm hoping that this site will evolve over time but the main aim is really to provide our family, friends and the rest of the online community (if you're listening) with our latest news and gossip.

Things are extremely busy for us just now. Julie, is pregnant and due in March and with Christmas just seven weeks away now the pressure is on to get the nursery sorted and all the christmas presents bought and sent away.

Anyway, I have loads of news I could post but it only makes sense to put it online a bit at a time. After all, you need to keep people coming back ;)

Let us know what you think about the site, give us your comments on our news and, for any family and friends out there, let us know what you're up to. You never know we might post it :)
